Clever frame designWhat does it have to do and why is it so important? It has to be light enough to pick up easily, strong enough to respond to what you throw at it and of course good looking to turn those heads. Is the shape of the compact frame important ? Damn right it is - the top tube has been lowered into the lateral tube for a specific tandem reason; to get your leg over easily - simple but a true revolution! Finding that the supply of more than the statutory 4 bottle mounts is a bonus too! Who would have thought that having the choice of either a trail or a road wheel on one frame makes a lot of sense. Just swap the wheels and your ready to ride for a different activity? What frame size do we need?We supply two frame sizes that fits most of us. If you are over 6' 4" or below 4' 6" then we are sorry that Landescape will be difficult to fit (unless you are a kiddie). For the rest of you it's a piece of cake to adjust saddle and handlebar heights for all combinations. Our A head NVO handlebar stem on the front and the riser on the rear can be vertically adjusted by allen-keys allowing the positioning of the handlebars to be just as easy as your saddle height! However if you are one of the little people who just love these 'long bikes' then our ingenious 'BratPak' comes with the cranks, saddles and pedal to fit in minutes. What wheels can we fit?Now we come to the bit where you say - why bother having two wheel sizes? All Landescape Tandems can ride with 700c road/sport or 26" trail/off road wheels (in simple terms the rims are 622mm or 559mm in diameter) and will accept up to a 60mm width. Why do we do this? Well most people don't have the space or the money for two or more tandems and often don't understand the characteristics that each wheel diameter benefits. Using disc brakes, a wheel swap takes minutes and can add a great dimension to your Tandeming. Disc Brakes, are they good?Since the 70's when Tandems began to get popular again the braking was pretty poor. Steel rims, cantilever brakes operating from one lever whilst the other a hub brake on the rear wheel. Stopping became only reasonable if it was not wet and you were not descending anything steeper than a supermarket trolley slope! Drag brakes (hub brakes screwed onto the rear and applied by a third lever to allow the front rider to not have to hang onto the brakes on descents!) came into force but with the advancement of Disc brakes, Tandems can take full advantage of the 203mm rotors (that's a minimum!) to give us braking into the 21st centaury. Of course if you are a light pair and want to ride up and down relatively easy hills than V brakes are adequate for this use. Landescape Tandems are supplied with rim and disc mounts on both front and rear and if you want a third brake for parking or for reassurance we have supplied the guided for this. So what else?Want another choice other than Azores Red or Atlantic Blue? Custom colour choice is available. Heavier load carrying, Avid cable disc brakes are available in road and trail, front & rear with 203mm rotors along with cable guides for both cable and hydraulic uses Want full off road capabilities as a Tandem Hard Tail; no problem U.S.E. sub anti-dive fork does exactly what it says it does and with the SUMO XCR seat post on the rear gives you off road stability you are crying out for! Braking is best supplied for off road conditions by Magura Gustav hydraulic disc brakes. A monster 210mm front rotor combined with a 190mm anti-lock rear, awesome!! For trail riding or shock absorbing road riding use the Magura Ronin 110 air suspension fork with on the fly lock out so that you can ride up those hills without bobbing into space. This fork can only be used with discs for either 700c or 26". Avid, U.S.E and Magura offer warranty on the above products for Tandem use.
